Your child's choice of friends

It's not at all uncommon for parents to be displeased with their child's choice of friends. It is only natural to want to protect your children and keep them away from things that you feel could hurt them, including other children.

It is very easy to tell your kid that you do not trust the friend whom he is hanging out with. However, this is a bad habit, and one that you should stop and replace with a more positive response:-

Let your children to choose their own friends. It will give them the chance to learn from different experiences. In any case, your children will do so anyway when you are not looking.
If your child chooses a friend that you do not like, try inviting the friend into your home. The love and values of your family may rub off on him. Not all bad kids stay bad – you can make a difference.
Banning your child's friends will hurt the communication and relationship with your child. If you fear that a friend is being a negative influence on your kid, then it's up to you to compensate by being a positive influence on both your child and the friend.
